Lakeview teacher named 1 of 4 finalists for Ohio Teacher of Year
Lakeview Elementary School teacher Melissa Kmetz was named one of four finalists for Ohio Teacher of Year.
In June, 10 teachers were named State Board District Teachers of the Year and this week that list was narrowed to four.
The three other finalists are Kathleen Pugh from Canton City Schools, Jennifer Allen from Hilliard City School District and Jeanne Rankin from Winton Woods City Schools.
Kmetz graduated from Campbell Memorial High School in 1999 and graduated Summa Cum Laude from YSU in 2003. She obtained a masters degree from YSU in 2007. She began her career teaching kindergarten and first grade in Salem. She moved to Lakeview Local Schools in 2006.
Lakeview Superintendent Velina Jo Taylor says, "I'm so glad they see the value in her commitment to global learning. She teaches about the big picture, and it helps kids to understand the world in a very different way."
Kmetz will be in Columbus Friday for a keynote presentation and panel interview. A state panel will then pick the Teacher of the Year and make the announcement this Fall.
