One of two Erie, Pennsylvania men, sought for allegedly firing shots at three pursuing police officers has been captured in Hermitage.
Acting on a tip that 29-year-old Shadarryl Jones may be in Mercer County, State Police, a Special Emergency Response Team, SWAT officers, U.S. Marshals, and Hermitage Police searched two apartments in Hermitage last Wednesday.
During the search, police arrested Jones, who is now jailed in Erie on a $100,000 bond in connection with a police pursuit in Erie, where shots were fired at an Erie Police Officer and two State Police Troopers.
Police are offering a $4,500 reward for a second suspect, 29-year-old Rakeem Jones who authorities say should be considered armed and dangerous.
Both men are charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and other firearms offenses.
On June 25, Troopers say they began following a red 2003 Mitsubishi Montero Sport along West 26th Street in Erie after seeing the SUV speed away from a parking lot.
According to police, the SUV came to a sudden stop on the road and a passenger opened the door and fired several shots at the pursuing PSP cruiser.
When a Trooper returned fire, the Montero sped away.
After an Erie Police cruiser joined the chase, police say the SUV crashed into a parked car in the area of Chestnut and West 16th Street.
Both suspects got out of the SUV, and police say the passenger fired several shots at both the PSP and Erie Police cruisers. None of the officers were hit by the gunfire.
Authorities say both men escaped on foot, leaving behind a 9mm pistol and a 50-round drum magazine.
Police are asking anyone with information on Rakeem Jones’ whereabouts is asked to contact either the PA State Police at 814-898-1641 or the US Marshall Fugitive Unit at 814-464-9680.
