YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - One of the most well-known republican governors in the country will visit the valley this month to rally voters around Ohio U.S. Senate candidate J.D. Vance.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is holding three Unite & Win rallies across the country, with a stop in Youngstown on August 19. The rally will be held at The Maronite Center with doors opening at 5 p.m. Tickets will be first come, first serve.

The Mahoning County Republican party is expecting it to be a packed event with standing room only.

"Real exciting that they chose this area and I think it shows the importance of what this area means to the republican votes statewide, that we need to carry this area," Tom McCabe said, chairman of Mahoning County Republican Party.

Vance is endorsed by DeSantis and former President Donald Trump. Despite the possibility of both DeSantis and Trump mulling 2024 presidential bids, local republican leaders tell 21 News they believe the party is focused on a united front into the midterms.

"I think you're seeing our party come together for the sole purpose of winning this seat, keeping this seat in Ohio and beating Tim Ryan," McCabe said.

Ohio 59th District State Rep. Al Cutrona agrees.

"This is a great example of unity within our party," Cutrona said. "I think our party is actually more unified now and you're seeing that."

While Tim Ryan's internal polls have shown the longtime democratic valley congressman has a lead in the race against Vance, McCabe believes Vance will win in November.

"The campaign kicks off Labor Day and so you're going to see that last two months there's going to be a big push and J.D. Vance is going to win Ohio," McCabe said.
