WARREN, Ohio - A Warren woman is charged with endangering children after allegedly leaving her two children unattended outside her home.

Police were dispatched to a residence on Homewood Avenue in Warren just before 11:30 a.m. on Saturday in reference to a call regarding two small children running in the road unsupervised, with one having a full diaper.

Upon arrival, police observed the children's mother, later identified as 34-year-old Brittany Spitler walking towards the road away from the residence.

Police say when they stopped Spitler, she appeared to be coming off of some sort of narcotic as she was lethargic, and her speech appeared to be slurred.

Spitler told police that she was not feeling well when she woke up around 7:00 a.m. and that she threw up and went back to sleep and didn't wake back up until the police arrived.

One neighbor told police that she had knocked on Spitler's door for about 45 minutes with no answer.

Police say the two children are under the custody of their grandmother in Cortland, and the grandmother has been allowing Spitler to see the kids unsupervised multiple times, and this was one of the very few times the kids were allowed to spend the night at Spitler's house.

Police say the caller on this incident had previously announced that a home inspection would be conducted that day. The inspection was conducted while the police were on the scene.

Police say an investigation revealed a glass meth pipe, a snort straw, two ripped plastic baggies, a torch, and a Visa card in the oven. A pill bottle without a label and three different types of pills inside were also found.

Several neighbors told police this was not the first time Spitler's children were left outside unattended in the past month.

Spitler is charged with two counts of child endangerment. She was arraigned on Monday, where she pled not guilty to these charges. Her next court date is September 27 at 10:15 a.m. in the Warren Municipal Court.

In the meantime, Spitler was issued a no-contact order by the court.
