The United State Postal Service says it has suspended delivery to one Youngstown street after a letter carrier was attacked by dogs.

A USPS representative tells 21 News that a unrestrained dogs attacked a carrier on Auburndale Avenue on the city's south side.

"Aggressive and unrestrained animals are a serious issue," says USPS spokesperson Naddia Dhalai. "One bite or fall can cause a serious injury; they are painful yet they can be prevented. We request all customers keep their dogs restrained during normal delivery hours to protect the safety of the letter carriers."

Dhalai says dog owners are responsible for controlling their dogs, and suggests securing pets during the approximate time their letter carrier arrives every day.

Local USPS management is working with the dog's owner, and mail delivery will resume when it is deemed safe for the letter carrier.
