CANFIELD, Ohio - Canfield High School will be celebrating Homecoming, but not with a previously announced football game.

In a message posted on the Cardinal’s website, school officials announced on Tuesday that they were “just informed” that the Friday, September 30th, 2022 Homecoming Game against Cleveland Rhodes has been canceled “due to circumstances beyond their control”.

The posting did not explain why the game was canceled.  However, Deputy Chief of Communications for Cleveland Schools Tom Ott, told 21 News that there never was a game scheduled between Canfield and Rhodes, because no contract was signed by the schools.

The Cleveland School sports schedule lists September 30th as a “Bye” week for Rhodes.

21 News has reached out to a spokesperson for the Canfield District and is waiting for a response.

According to the posting on Canfield’s website, the Athletic Department is looking for a replacement team but due to the late cancellation,” this is unlikely to happen.

Even without a football game, the crowning of the 2022 Canfield High School Homecoming Queen will take place on Saturday, October 1, 2022, at 8:30 p.m. in the CHS auditorium. The Homecoming Court will be introduced and the 2022 Queen will be crowned.

The dance will go on as scheduled from 7:00-10:00 p.m. in the CHS cafeteria.

The Homecoming Court and Queen will be recognized during the Varsity Football home game on Friday, October 14, 2022, against Howland, which is also Military and First Responder night.
