Mercer County man convicted of strangulation death of wife

A Mercer County man faces an October 27 sentencing hearing after a jury found him guilty of fatally strangling his new bride.
District Attorney Peter Acker tells 21 News that the jury delivered its verdict on Thursday, finding Eric George guilty of third-degree murder.
The trial of the 45-year-old Coolspring Township man began earlier this week in Mercer County Common Pleas Court on charges of first-degree murder, aggravated assault, and strangulation.
Police say George admitted to a police dispatcher that he strangled 41-year-old Serena Anne Schoeder who was found dead in his mother’s home at the Pine Grove Mobile Home Park on the night of June 14, 2021.
George, a registered sex offender, had married Schoeder earlier that year.
According to Wisconsin court records, in 2000, George was sentenced to 11 years in prison after being convicted of second-and third-degree sexual assault in Milwaukee. The court also ordered that George spend five years on probation after the completion of his sentence.
George is registered in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania as a sex offender which lists one of his aliases as Evil George.
Wisconsin court records described George as a habitual, repeat offender.
George has been held in the Mercer County Jail since his arrest in June of last year.
