YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (AP) - On Thursday afternoon, The Kiwanis Club of Boardman-Youngstown donated $5000 to Harding Elementary School in Youngstown.
The grant is to provide school aged children of first through fifth grade books every month. Each book is tailored to the students reading level and interest.
Second grade Harding elementary teacher. Shannon Sefcik, says this initiative helps many students who did not read much during the pandemic.
"When we were virtual--- they didn't have access to reading materials like when they were in school", Sefcik said.
This is the second year the club has provided the school with this donation.
The club plans to expand the effort to other schools in Youngstown.
