YOUNGSTOWN -  The Mahoning County Dog Warden and Youngstown Police are trying to find out who shot a dog in the head.

The animal fundraising group “Friends of Fido” is reporting that a dog was found wounded and underfed over the weekend in a shed along Burlington Street on the city’s North Side.

The dog received veterinary treatment for infection which included IV fluids. The veterinary staff named the dog “Bandit”.

Vets say the bullet went through the back of his head and out the side of his neck. There appears to be some peripheral nerve swelling and Bandit is very weak but is responsive.

Bandit is now back at the pound and ate breakfast and walked outside on Monday. However, weighing just over 34 pounds, Bandit is still weak.

The initial vet bill was more than $1,100.

Anyone wishing to donate to his care may do so at Friends of Fido.
