Vindicator file photo / September 27, 1974 | The highest honor of Scottish Rite Freemasonry was conferred at the Hadden Hall Hotel in Atlanta 48 years ago during the annual meeting of the Supreme Council of Scottish Rite for 15 northeastern and midwestern states. Among the 206 who received the degree as part of the 1974 class were, from left, Clifford M. Powell and John H. Wanamaker, both of Youngstown, and William C. McCleery of Richmond, Ohio.

1997: Sixty-eight farmers ask South Pymatuning, Pa., township supervisors to support designating their land as an agricultural security area.

Girard Municipal Court Judge Anthony Bernard finds that Ohio's law regulating the sale of fireworks is confusing and contradictory, and he dismisses charges filed by Hubbard Township Police Chief John Karlovic against Naples Wholesale Fireworks.
General Motors Chairman Roger B. Smith tells a congressional panel that the undervaluation of the Japanese yen gives Japan's automakers a growing advantage when pricing cars for sale in the United States.
1972: Two of four suspected bandits in a robbery at the Hubbard branch of Mahoning National Bank are arrested by Youngstown detectives, who spotted their getaway car on Liberty Road minutes after the robbery.
