Hermitage and Wheatland consider merger

HERMITAGE, Pa. - A meeting will take place Wednesday evening at 5p.m. in Hermitage to discuss the merger between Wheatland and Hermitage.
The merger was approved at a previous meeting, and residents will be able to learn more about the prospective merger, voice any concerns and learn what the merger will impact them.
The merger comes after the borough of Wheatland conducted a study that concluded that the merger would be beneficial for both Wheatland and Hermitage.
Hermitage currently provides street workers and police for Wheatland, and if the merger proceed, Wheatland residents would receive lowered real estate taxes.
Wheatland students currently attend Farrell schools, which would still continue when the merger proceeds.
Residents of Hermitage and Wheatland will vote on the merger in November, and if the vote passes, the merger will take place in 2024, giving the communities a year to prepare.
