Foxconn Technolgy Group, which runs the former GM Assembly Plant in Lordstown known as Foxconn Ohio, said they have many reasons to celebrate Tuesday.

Last week, Foxconn's parent company, Hon Hai Technology, signed a memorandum of understanding with INDIEV to manufacture the first INDI One prototype vehicle, in which the company shared its first look at the prototype and discussed the two companies working together.

In Lordstown, INDI EV shared its plans for the company.

"We made a commitment that we’re going to build a pre-production vehicle, so we need to work with a design team, supply base and deliver to our customer's expectations," said Rick Rajaie, Foxconn's vice president of product and business development for electric vehicles.

Foxconn and INDIEV are in negotiations working together and attempting an agreement that would allow Foxconn to build pre-production prototypes of the latest electric vehicle.

INDI EV is a Los Angeles-based company founded in 2017 with the goal of making an electric vehicle controlled by an integrated computer.

In August, INDI EV released a video of an INDI One driving along Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, California.

With starting prices advertised at $45,000, the INDI One shown is said to have a range of 230 miles, with 275 horsepower, accelerating from zero to sixty in 6.7 seconds with a top speed of 120 mph.

"Throughout this process, Foxconn is confident in its Ohio workforce to manufacture quality prototypes that will help INDIEV achieve future success," said Hsiao.

Foxconn took over manufacturing operations in Lordstown after completing an Asset Purchase Agreement with Lordstown Motors Corporation.

This now brings the number of potential products to a total of three electric vehicles- joining the Monarch tractor, the Lordstown Motors Endurance pickup truck, and the Fisker PEAR EV. A video posted from an Italian car design firm showing an EV mini hatchback is expected to be announced Oct. 18 at Hon Hai Tech Day 2022.

Until the deal is sealed though, Foxconn cannot start on the pre-production prototypes - which they would like to have built, late next year. Currently, both companies are still in negotiations.
