BOARDMAN, Ohio - With spooky season in full swing, you could say Jacob Latessa is feeling festive just by looking at his front yard.

"I like doing it because it makes people happy," Latessa said to 21 News' Erin Simonek. "I like seeing how many people like what I do."

Located just across the street from Rulli Brothers on South Avenue in Boardman, hundreds stop by his home every year to get a glimpse of the hundreds of decorations he sets up entirely on his own.

"I like people to be inspired by this and maybe decorate their house," Latessa said. "It just brings the Halloween spirit to the community."

Starting this passion as a young boy, the outside display started when he was 11 and has grown every year. Cars stop by his home day to night to walk through the extensive display. Latessa told 21 News he often buys items on clearance in the off-season for next year.

"It actually all started with one blowup witch and it still works, surprisingly," the 17-year-old added. "It's been getting bigger every year we've been doing it and here we are right now."

The entire setup took Jacob about three weeks to install, working day to night every day. His mother, Lisa, told 21 News the Halloween display increases her electric bill by about $50.00 a month.

Latessa said he compares his display to the Canfield Scaregrounds, but knows he has the largest home display in the Mahoning Valley.

"When I'm setting it up, I just think of how many people will like it and all the people that come by. It just makes it all worth it," Latessa said.

Jacob's well-known because he decorates his home for every single holiday, Christmas is the largest display. In fact, he will start to tear down Halloween soon to start the Christmas setup.

"On Monday, October 17, we'll be taking this all down," Latessa said. "I'm actually starting Christmas right now. I'm putting all the lights on the house. We take this down early because we want the Christmas stuff to be up by Thanksgiving Day."

Latessa accepts donations at the display around Christmas time.
