Jewish hate is on the rise, artists join together to spread awareness

Youngstown & Mahoning Valley - Antisemitism is on the rise both nationally and locally.
The Mahoning Valley is working to stop this in Youngstown. 'Chalk Over Hate' at the Jewish Community Center brought artists, even one from Texas, to bring awareness in hopes this will end Jewish hate.
The American Jewish Committee Reports that one in four Jews in the United States experienced antisemitism in 2021, and it continues to be a problem.
"Statistics show that antisemitism is on the rise, the numbers are just staggering at this point," Baraba Wilson Arts & Culture Director with the JCC said, "There is a lot of ignorance, there is a lot of false news out there. There are just a lot of people who are angry right now and looking for a group to hate."
The JCC's campaign "Chalk Over Hate" brought three artists from out of state, who are a part of an organization called Artists 4 Israel. Each mural they created illustrates a message.
Anat Ronen is an artist from Texas, originally from Israel.
"I'm Jewish so I know very well the issue from all sides," Ronen said, "I think it's important for someone from the inside to kind of tackle it because it's a thing we live with. It's something that we can't really escape."
She drew a 3D illusion literally illustrating showing chalk over hate. From one angle you see the artwork is almost 20 feet long, but from another angle, you see a piece of chalk on the pavement.

"It plays with perspective which is actually what we're doing here," she said, "different perspective and different views, eliminating the negative and enhancing the positive."
