Springfield's Welsh Motors closing after 83 years in business

SPRINGFIELD TWP., Mahoning Co., Ohio - When Duncan Welsh and his son Wayne purchased a Ford auto franchise in 1939 in Springfield Township, the price of a four-door sedan was just under $800.
Over the next 83 years up until the present, members of the family continued to sell Fords through Welsh Motors.
The dealership has now announced on its Facebook page that as of November 1st, Welsh Motors will close.
Duncan’s great-granddaughter, Kim, has decided to retire after following in the footsteps of her father Larry as president of Welsh Motors President since 2012.
Kim’s sisters, Cathy and Brenda, have also worked for Welsh Motors, along with their mother.
The family’s business history in their corner of Mahoning County preceded Welsh Motors.
When Duncan and Wayne started Welsh Motors, they already had a few school buses and were providing transportation to Springfield Local students.
Before that, family members were partners in the Wire Welsh Distillery producing Middletown Golden Rye Whiskey.
