Explosives training to be conducted this week near Newton Falls

Newton Falls residents near Camp James A. Garfield Joint Military Training Center may notice an increase in blast noise from the area on Saturday, Oct. 22.
Explosives will be used during training conducted by the Ohio Army National Guard’s 812th Engineer Company, and the notice is to let area residents know that a drill is taking place, and not to be alarmed.
The planned explosives training is an important part of military readiness that simulates realistic battle conditions. Sounds from the explosions may be heard farther away than what occurs during normal operations.
The Training Center is an Ohio Army National Guard training site in Portage and Trumbull counties that consists of about 21,000 acres, with various small
arms weapons ranges and permanent facilities to support individual and collective training events for both weekend and annual training.
