A Youngstown Police Officer has a court date later this month to answer charges filed for allegedly shoplifting at the Boardman Walmart.

The Youngstown Law Department tells 21 News that 29-year-old Patrolman Deon Gilbert of Austintown has been placed on paid leave since he was charged with five misdemeanor counts of theft.

A Walmart Loss Prevention employee provided Boardman Police with security video of Officer Gilbert allegedly failing to scan several items while he was going through the store’s self-checkout.

Loss Prevention told police that there were several instances of the Gilbert’s alleged shoplifting between September 21, 2022 and October 10, 2022.  Walmart estimates a total loss in merchandise of $134.52.

Gilbert reported to the Boardman Police station and was given a summons to appear in County Court on November 29.
