Students and staff were evacuated following a power outage and reports of smoke in the building.

Dispatchers were told that smoke was reported in the kitchen after power went out at around 9:30 a.m. Monday.

In addition to firefighters from Lowellville, fire departments form Struthers, Campbell and Springfield were also dispatched.

The first firefighter to arrive reported that no smoke or flames could be seen from the outside of the school. Crews are checking to see if the smoke came from a malfunctioning electric motor.

Most of the fire engines cleared the scene just after 10 a.m.

According to the FirstEnergy website, 2900 customers in Lowellville, Campbell, Coitsville, Poland, Struthers, and Youngstown are without power. The utility which is investigating the cause of the outage, had restored most of the power within an hour.
