The Trumbull County Coroner's Office has identified the victim of a shooting that occurred on North Park Avenue Wednesday night.

The male victim has been identified as 53-year-old Michael Nigrin. Nigrin died from multiple gunshot wounds. The manner of his death is pending further investigation.

Just after 5:00 p.m., police responded to the scene on North Park Avenue between State Route 305 and Johnson Plank. 

Police told 21 News that Nigrin was found deceased in the backyard of a home with multiple gunshot wounds, however the circumstances leading up to his death are unknown at this time.

Police say they're not ruling anything out at this point and the investigation is ongoing.

21 News spoke with Nigrin's neighbor, who had called 911 to report shots fired in the area. The caller, who asked to remain anonymous recounted what he saw that night.

"I look up my driveway toward the backyard and I seen a guy laying on his back kind of moving around moaning and groaning," the caller said.

The caller went on to tell us that within the time of talking to dispatch he had heard a few more shots fired. 

"I went outside again, locked my door [and] I see him kind of walking up towards his house stumbling and I yelled out to him and said 'are you alright.' No response, so I went back in and locked the doors," the caller said.

Bazetta, Champion and Cortland Police, along with the Trumbull County Coroner were on the scene.
