A New Castle man is facing charges after allegedly robbing a Dollar General at gunpoint.

According to the release, 53-year-old Richard Peluso allegedly went to the Dollar General on Croton Avenue in New Castle and bought cigarettes around 1:45 p.m. Monday.

While making the purchase, police say Peluso pulled a gun out of his pocket and pointed it at an employee before putting the gun away and leaving the store parking lot in a silver Honda.

Officers searched the area and found the car in front of a home in the 200 block of Fern Street.

New Castle Police began to surround the home when Peluso walked out of the front door with a gun in his hand.

According to the release, Peluso began walking toward his car while ignoring officers' commands. Police say at one point Peluso lifted the gun in the air and said "boom, boom, boom" before getting into his car and trying to drive away.

Police were able to stop him and take him into custody.

Peluso was found to have a handgun with one round in the chamber.

He is facing charges of attempted robbery, aggravated assault, resisting arrest and terroristic threats.
