AUSTINTOWN, Ohio - Austintown Police apprehended a suspect at Giant Eagle on Mahoning Avenue, Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2022 for active theft warrants with the Austintown and Boardman Police Departments, along with the Mahoning County Sheriff's Office.

When police spotted the suspect later identified as 33-year-old Lewis Brown at the store's self check-out line he immediately called for an additional unit and made contact with Brown as he exited into the lobby of the store. Police say they were familiar with Brown from a recent theft case.

Police say they called Brown by name, but Brown told police that he was actually Lewis Brown's brother. Police say when they asked Brown for his ID, he immediately ran back into the store toward the rear entrance near the fire exit, then down the beverage aisle, through the dairy aisle and towards main exit.

When officers began to run to the front of the store Brown exited into the parking lot where officers continued to chase him giving loud verbal commands for Brown to stop running.

An officer deployed his taser at Brown's back but the taser did not make contact. Police say Brown continued running until he reached the Starbucks' parking where officers in marked cars diverted Brown's direction in which he was running.

Once Brown noticed he had no where else to run, he complied with orders and laid on the ground with his hands by his side and was taken into custody without further incident.

Brown was taken to the Austintown Police Department where one officer observed Brown's recent booking photo and confirmed the suspect was indeed Lewis Brown who uses the alias Keith Lamar Brown.

Brown was transported to the Mahoning County Jail and is facing charges from his theft warrants, as well as obstructing official business, falsification, aggravated robbery and additional theft warrants.
