LORDSTOWN, Ohio - Two days of voting got underway Wednesday for 900 workers at the Ultium Cells plant in Lordstown as they decide if they want to join the United Autoworkers Union.

The United States Labor Relations Board scheduled voting sessions on Wednesday, December 7 from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. and again on December 8 at the same times.

The question on the paper ballots simply asks workers to check a box "Yes" or "No" as to whether they wish to be represented for purposes of collective bargaining by the UAW.

Voting will take place at the Ultium Cells plant, 7400 Tod Avenue SW.

Employees eligible to vote include all full-time and regular part-time production and maintenance employees who
were employed during the payroll period ending Sunday, November 13, 2022.

When voting is completed Thursday night, the paper ballots will be mixed and counted immediately, according the the Labor Relations Board.

This voting comes after months of efforts from Ultium Cells workers to unionize. In August, 85% of Ultium Cells workers signed union authorization cards. 94% of workers have voted to strike should General Motors not recognize them as a union.

Production of the batteries being used in General Motors electric vehicles began at the Lordstown plant in August
