Dodge Ram pickups tailgates could unexpectedly open, 1.2 million recalled

Stellantis announced that it is recalling 1,234,657 Dodge Ram pickup trucks because the tailgate could open, allowing the cargo to spill.
The recall involves 2019-2022 Ram 2500, 1500, and 3500 models.
Some of the trucks may have been built with one or both tailgate strikers misaligned which could cause an unintended tailgate opening while driving possibly resulting in a loss of unsecured cargo, potentially creating a road hazard to operators and occupants of other vehicles and can cause the vehicles to crash.
As of November 22, 2022, the company said it had received 15 customer assistance records, 736 warranty claims, and 101 field reports potentially related to the issue.
The company says it is not aware of any accidents or injuries.
The company will begin notifying owners in late January to inspect the tailgate strike alignment and adjust it if necessary.
