Committee seeking to remove Austintown Trustee from office to host drive-thru petition signing

A committee with the goal of removing an Austintown Trustee from office will be hosting a drive-thru petition signing event on Monday January 2.
The event will take place at 1055 South Raccoon Road at the recycling center from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. There will be a tent and a drive-thru lane for folks to sign the petition.
The committee is aiming to remove Steve Kent from his role as an Austintown Trustee. Kent originally worked as a school resource officer for Poland Schools, but was fired with trustees citing "immoral conduct and malfeasance."
The following month, Kent was charged with three counts of sexual battery against a student and one count of tampering with evidence. He pled not guilty to these charges.
Event organizer, Brenda Rider tells 21 News some people from Poland will also be at the event to support the cause. Rider describes these guests as "victims of Kent and their families."
Rider went on to say she hopes the committee can reach their signature goal.
"It's not a political thing. It's a matter of right and wrong," Rider said.
In order to pass, the petition needs 2,290 signatures. The petition currently has about 700 signatures. Only those registered to vote in Austintown may sign the petition.
