Lowellville Local Schools is partnering with Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, the Village of Lowellville, and Cornerstone of Hope to host a grief counseling seminar for the community.

The event welcomes parents, students, and residents from the community.

Julia Ellifritt from Cornerstone of Hope will be presenting on grief, trauma, and self-care. Ellifritt will also answer community questions and help individuals process grief.

The seminar comes after the community of Lowellville has faced its fair share of tragedies in the past year.

In May 2022, a 13-year-old student died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The shooting took place in the K-12 school cafeteria during lunch.

Recently at the beginning of December 2022, a mother and daughter were killed in a domestic violence incident on Watson Street in Lowellville.

25-year-old Catheryn Hudak and 55-year-old Deborah Hudak were shot and killed by 38-year-old Jonathan Crago of Girard. Crago committed suicide in Cleveland shortly after the double homicide.

The event will also cover the impact that the Covid-19 pandemic has had on the community's mental health.

The seminar takes place Wednesday, January 4, from 6:00-7:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria.

The discussion is open to all, but interested parties are asked to RSVP by Calling Angel McLaughlin at 330-536-8426 ext. 100.
