YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The Youngstown Police Department is scheduled to hold a press conference on Monday, January 9 in regards to a new public safety initiative.

The goal of the initiative is to reduce excessive speeding through school zones throughout the city.

Representatives from the City, Police and Blue Line Solutions will all be in attendance.

Since December of 2021, the City of Youngstown has been discussing potentially putting speed cameras in the city's school zones. These cameras would be paid for out of ticket revenue costing the city nothing.

However, Youngstown Councilwoman Anita Davis had previously told 21 News that this could lead to unintended cuts to the city's finances.

"We can use speed cameras, but on a dollar-to-dollar basis, we can lose revenue passed through the state a long time ago," Davis said.
