BOARDMAN, Ohio - With the injury of Buffalo Bills safety, Damar Hamlin fresh on folks' minds, a local emergency training service is reminding Valley residents of the importance of CPR.

About nine out of 10 people who experience cardiac arrest outside of the hospital die, but those odds can be reduced if you're around someone who knows CPR.

Situations requiring the use of CPR happen every day, so Rescue Me Health Services LLC in Boardman is offering classes to help folks prepare for the day they may need to use CPR to potentially save a life.

"You need to act fast, as quick as possible to be able to assist and maybe sustaining that patient's or victim's life," said Rescue Me Health Services owner, Danasha Collier.

These classes cost between $55 and $75 and last about three and a half hours. Those who take the class will learn CPR for all ages as well as when to recognize when CPR is needed and tactics to remain calm when performing CPR.

After passing a written test and hands-on training, you become American Heart Association and Red Cross certified in CPR. Collier tells 21 News these classes are most beneficial for people in caretaking positions and that she also provides free CPR courses once every other month.

Those bimonthly classes are only an hour and a half, but do not get you a certification.

Certification for American Heart Association and Red Cross is good for two years.
