A Youngstown woman who authorities say dragged a dog behind a car has been sentenced to 30 days in Jail.

In addition, Mahoning County Common Pleas Court Judge John Durkin sentenced 56-year-old Mechelle Kelley to two years probation and ordered her not own any animals.

Kelly, who pleaded guilty earlier to animal cruelty after being indicted by a grand jury, is also ordered to continue mental health counseling.

A post on the Animal Charity Facebook page claimed the dog named Oreo was dragged nearly 100 yards by a car traveling 35 miles per hour because it had broken from its chain.

Animal Charity’s veterinary staff, which guided the dog through its recovery,  reported that Oreo had broken toes, broken nails, as well as abrasions on her legs, stomach, and chin.
