Bristolville man arrested after feds, state terror investigators report school threat
A 19-year-old from Bristolville is learning that federal, state, and local law enforcement take a dim view of making threats to shoot up a school, even if the person who made them says he wasn’t serious.
According to report from the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office, the FBI and the Ohio Statewide Terror Analysis and Crime Center notified deputies on Monday that someone living on the 6300 block of State Route 45 in Bristolville made an online comment saying, “I would shoot up a school if I could”.
Investigators say they traced the source of the alleged threat through an IP address to Ethan Marks, who goes online by the name “SlazyXD”.
A deputy says Marks admitted making the comment but said he was messing around, and that people say stuff like that online all the time.
Since Marks lives close to Bristol High School, deputies notified the superintendent and the school resource officer.
Mark's mother told the deputy that she has a firearm in the house, but the bullets have been removed and the trigger mechanism is secured.
The suspect was handcuffed and booked into the county jail on one misdemeanor count of inducing panic with the threat of violence.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was freed on $1,500 bond as he awaits another hearing in Newton Falls Municipal Court on February 14.
