YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - A police officer involved in the shooting of a suspect in a high speed police pursuit will not be charged.

Mahoning County Prosecutor, Gina DeGenova tells 21 News that the officer involved in the shooting, which was simply referred to as "John Doe" in a Grand Jury report is not facing any charges.

"Our office thoroughly reviewed the case and presented it for the Grand Jury's consideration. After hearing evidence, the Grand Jury returned a No Bill finding insufficient basis to move forward with any criminal charges," DeGenova said.

This case stems from a high speed police chase that started in Struthers and ended on Salt Springs Road in Youngstown in April of 2022.

Officers were chasing a suspect, later identified as 35-year-old James Sheets of Struthers. Bodycam video shows Police shooting Sheets after they say Sheets pulled a gun on them.

BCI investigated the case.
