Police find blood, knife, machete at Boardman home, one arrested

One man faces charges after police found a knife and a machete in a blood spattered home along Western Reserve Road in Boardman.
Brian Smith, 35, was arrested Thursday afternoon at an apartment above a business at East Western Reserve Road and Southern Boulevard.
The arrest came shortly after police were called to a home on the 500 block of East Western Reserve Road where officers say they found blood covering the floors and walls as well as a machete and a blood-stained kitchen knife.
Smith's stepfather, who had a cut on his hand, told police he was wounded as Smith pulled the knife as he tried to force his way into his home. The stepfather said he held the machete in case he needed it for protection after previously arguing with Smith over money issues.
Smith admitted to police that he kicked the back door of his stepfather's home, trying to get in to retrieve his cell phone.
According to the police report, officers determined that Smith was the primary aggressor and charged him with felonious assault and domestic violence.
The stepfather refused medical treatment for his wounded hand.
Smith was scheduled to answer the charges in court on Tuesday.
