The Ohio Casino Control Commission met Wednesday morning to discuss numerous matters including a reflection on the launch of legal sports betting in Ohio.

In terms of revenue, the commission reports a total of $39.4 million made on sports betting licensing fees. The vast majority of the revenue generated from the fees goes towards the Gambling Education Fund and the Veterans Fund.

According to Ohio Casino Control Commission Executive Director, Matt Schuler, 16 online sportsbooks, 13 brick-and-mortar sportsbooks and 700 retail locations launched in Ohio so far.

"My only comment here is that it was a smooth launch," Schuler said during Wednesday's meeting.

Additionally, Schuler discussed potentially banning betters who make hateful comments towards players of losing teams. This discussion stemmed from a recent press conference held by Dalton Flyers Coach, Anthony Grant Tuesday night.

During the conference, Coach Grant called out folks who left hateful comments towards the players after a loss. The press conference can be viewed in its entirety here.

Schuler says the Commission does indeed have authority to exclude betters if they are found leaving these comments.

"If social media is able to help us determine who these individuals are that are speaking hate to kids, then the commission has a responsibility to ensure that those people cannot engage in legal sports gambling in the state of Ohio," Schuler said.

It is unclear if hateful messages have been sent to any other sports teams at this time.
