Glenwood fourplex receives major facelift after nearly 100 years; ready for new tenants

The Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation (YNDC) hosted a ribbon cutting Wednesday morning in celebration of another successful renovation project.
Located at 3711 Glenwood Ave. the nearly century old apartment building received a modern facelift but YNDC housing director, Tiffany Sokol says preserving antique elements was an important part of the renovation.
"The built in ice boxes and the little places for the phone and the milk delivery door. There a lot of really cool features in this building that we don't often see," Sokol said.
Built in 1926, Youngstown native James Harvey was its last owner before its nearly twenty year vacancy. While his family decided they no longer wanted the home, YNDC didn't want it to fall into blight.
The building houses four units with one bedroom and bathroom in each. With a $600 a month price tag, plus gas and electricity, development officials say this building is another major effort in improving the city.
The YNDC has renovated 150 houses in Youngstown.
The project was financed by PNC Bank.
