Farrell Bishop and mother of suspect raise concerns over viral arrest video

FARRELL, Pa. - A mother of a Youngstown man said her son is recovering after a video went viral online, showing his arrest Friday during an altercation with Farrell, Pennsylvania police.
Mercer County District Attorney Peter Acker said an investigation is ongoing, but Acker's preliminary determination is that police were acting in compliance.
Farrell Bishop Melvin Baker said he is outraged after seeing the video circulating the internet. Bystanders captured the footage as Farell Police made the arrest Friday near Bond and Hoon Streets, as police took physical measures to apprehend 27-year-old Aries Shaw.
"This was unacceptable. Unacceptable behavior by the police, regardless of what the young man did," Baker said, "Nowhere in law enforcement is it ever acceptable to punch kick or put your knee on anyone."
Shaw now faces drug charges and resisting arrest. Acker said police initially responded to the scene for an assault incident.
Aries mother, Anissa Lewis, told 21 News she was shocked when she saw the video and believes it was uncalled for.
"As a mother, it makes you literally physically sick, of course, I cried, I threw up, I just was sick," she said, "He [Shaw] has a closed head injury, injury of the neck, two fractured fingers on the right hand, injury of his chest wall and injury of his left thigh."
District Attorney Peter Acker said in a statement: "Mr. Shaw was tased and struck by officers in order to terminate his continuing and active resisting arrest," adding, "Mr. Shaw at one point asserted that he could not breathe. After his arrest, Mr. Shaw was examined by EMTs who found no significant injuries nor any inability to breathe."
Acker said he will not authorize the release of body cam footage because it "remains under criminal investigation," explaining police are still searching for an assault victim and other are still potential assault charges to be made against Shaw and another suspect, 35-year-old Lashaii Hadden of Farrell.
