Shenango Valley Kennedy Catholic schools to remain open for 2023-24 school year

The superintendent of schools for the Diocese of Erie Jim Gallagher announced that the Kennedy Catholic Family of Schools will remain open after monetary issues in the district led to the diocese setting a list of goals that had to be achieved by January 27 for additional consideration from the diocese on Tuesday.
Gallagher and the Shenango Valley Catholic School System announced that each of the strategic performance indicators set for the Kennedy Catholic Family of Schools in December have been met or exceeded. The district was the approved to proceed with registration for the 2023-34 school year.
The board also received a new set of strategic performance indicators to ensure continued progress moving forward.
The indicators mets included:
- The diocese raised goal funds needed of $800,000.
- Obtain full board participation in training sessions.
- Institute protocols and procedures for board meetings.
- Establish and appoint members to the executive, finance, mission enhancement, policy and planning, and advancement committees.
- Provide transparency and regular communications to all stakeholders.
- Present a preliminary budget for the 2023-24 school year.
On January 27, the diocese met with SVCSS board members Patrick Zoccole, Angela Surano and George Becker, as well as KCHS Principal Janet Halicki, and reviewed the progress made toward meeting those expectations. We are happy to report that each of the performance indicators in the first phase has been met or exceeded.
A letter provided to 21 News stated "In light of the board's progress, we have given our approval to proceed with registration and scheduling classes for both schools in the 2023-2024 school year. In addition, we have given the board a new set of strategic performance indicators to
ensure continued progress. These include plans to hire a new president and to develop sustainable fundraising and enrollment plans as well as a long-range strategic plan."
