Arms Family Museum opens for 2023 with new exhibits
No matter how many times you've visited the arms family museum, there's always something new to learn about the history of the city of Youngstown. From unique artifacts from the Arms Family to a glimpse at what life was like throughout Youngstown's past.
THE ARMS MUSEUM IS A GREAT RESOURCE TO TEACH US A LITTLE ABOUT THE CITY OF YOUNGSTOWN AND ITS DEVELOPMENT AND THIS YEAR A BRAND NEW EXHIBIT, SHOWING OFF SOME OF THOSE KEY BUILDINGS THAT PLAYED A MAJOR ROLE IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE CITY.
"the photos we see here were published in 1889 and they basically portray Youngstown during its years of prosperity. these are all the original photographs that were published in 1889," says Brooke bobovynik, curatorial assistant with the arms family museum.
Photos like the Rayen School, Tod House, and even pictures of early suspension bridges are all on display giving a glimpse at what life was like in the city at the end of the 19th century.
"A LOT OF THESE STRUCTURES AREN'T UP TODAY, SO SEEING THESE PHOTOGRAPHS THAT DISPLAY YOUNGSTOWN AT ITS GOLDEN AGE I THINK IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT ESPECIALLY FOR PEOPLE AROUND MY AGE THAT DON'T REALLY KNOW MUCH ABOUT WHAT IT WAS LIKE GROWING UP IN YOUNGSTOWN DURING THAT TIME," adds bobovynik.
That won't be the only thing new to the Arms Family Museum in 2023, a new exhibit featuring handmade clothing made in the area and other clothing and accessories made by companies from Youngstown's past. You can expect that exhibit to open in late spring of this year.
