Youngstown First Ward Council candidate not certified on ballot

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The petition for a candidate for Youngstown City Council was not certified by the Mahoning County Board of Elections due to a lack of signatures.
According to a clerk at the Mahoning County Board of Elections, the petition for Dionne Lacy for First Ward Councilwoman was not certified.
Lacy needed at least 25 signatures to be on the ballot, but the Board of Elections tells 21 News she only had 19 signatures. Lacy now has an opportunity to appeal this ruling.
Lacy would have run as a Democrat against fellow Democrat and current First Ward Councilman, Julius Oliver, and Republican candidate, Tracey Randall.
In addition, the Board was also examining a candidate for judge of the Struthers Municipal Court, Dominic Leone.
The clerk tells 21 News Leone had some signatures that were deemed to be invalid, which pushed him below the required threshold of 50 signatures to appear on the ballot.
However, the Board tells 21 News that Leone was able to provide Board members affidavits indicating that these signatures were indeed valid, which was enough for him to meet his threshold of 50 signatures.
Leone is running as a Democrat against fellow Democrat, James Melone and Republican candidate, Jennifer Ciccone.
