Youngstown Fire Department, Mahoning County HAZMAT team report safe air quality

YOUNGSTOWN - Youngstown Fire Chief Barry Finsley sent a press release to update residents on the air quality of the city following the train derailment in East Palestine.
According to the release, the Youngstown Fire Department has been in communication with the Mahoning County Hazardous Materials team, and is reporting safe air quality that poses no health hazards.
"The Mahoning County HAZMAT team has deemed Youngstown's air to be free from any hazardous toxins and safe for residents to breathe. We understand the concern and urgency surrounding this issue, and I want to assure you that your health and well-being are our top priority," said Finsley.
The county HAZMAT team plans to continue to monitor the air quality and provide Youngstown Fire Department with updates as needed.
The release advises that in the unlikely event that residents again begin to smell burning plastic or acetone, that residents use an abundance of caution and urge residents to shelter inside.
