The Mahoning County Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) is ready to share with the community. The plan is a comprehensive effort,  including residents from all across Mahoning County, to determine the biggest challenges to the health of the community.

Their results from residents showed drug abuse, mental health concerns, violence and lack of access to care were the top priorities for citizens.

After receiving more than 1700 surveys from Mahoning residents, Youngstown City Health District officials and partners now say they're determined to find solutions to these longstanding problems.

The strategic plan provides 31 recommended strategies to help combat issues people are facing. From improving bus safety for children to mental health training for police officers.

"We want to make sure the services that people need are offered," said Youngstown Health Commissioner Erin Bishop.

Conducting specific assessments to better understand citizens needs and hosting community cleanups to create safe places to live, work, learn and play are just a few of the plans developed to help members of the community.

Monthly progress reports will keep health officials on track to accomplish these goals.
