Trumbull Co. sees second-highest drug-related deaths in 2022

While 2017 was the height of the opioid epidemic in Trumbull County, the final numbers for drug-related deaths for 2022 in Trumbull County have been released, showing it another deadly year.
Drug-related deaths for 2022 show it was the county's second deadliest year for drug-related deaths in the county, according to Dr. Lawrence D'Amico, Trumbull County Coroner, who released the statistics on Monday.
Accidental drug-related deaths hit 125 deaths in 2022, which was up 8 deaths from 2021, but 10 under the deadliest year of 2017.
The coroner's office stated that 93 percent of the toxicology results showed fentanyl mixed within drugs, including 22 percent cocaine and fentanyl, with another 22 percent of other drugs mixed with fentanyl, 18 percent fentanyl only were some of the most found deadly combinations within
The Trumbull County Combined Health District data showed the county averaged around 50 overdoses a month, with January, March, April, August, September (highest), November and December. In 2017, overdoses exceeded more than 100 people per month in March, April, May, June, July, September (highest) and October.
