Environmental activist Erin Brockovich coming to East Palestine for town hall meeting after train derailment
Environmental activist Erin Brockovich is making her way to East Palestine for a town hall Thursday.
She made the announcement on her Twitter account Friday afternoon.
Brockovich has been tweeting about the East Palestine train derailment for the last week, sharing her concerns about the chemicals and potential adverse effects on people living in the area.
In 1993, Brockovich became a well-known whistleblower when she spoke out against the Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E).
She became an integral part of the case against PG&E after finding an unexplained sickness affecting the people of Hinckley, California. Her work uncovered the poisoning of Hinkley's water for more than 30 years by the company for leaking toxic chemicals into the groundwater.
The lawsuit against PG&E resulted in a $333 million settlement.
Her role in the fight against PG&E was turned into a biographical film in 2000 starring Julia Roberts as Brockovich.
The time and location of the town hall haven't been announced at the time of this writing.
