Ohio and Pennsylvania lawmakers want written response plan from Norfolk Southern

A number of lawmakers from Ohio and Pennsylvania are again calling on Norfolk Southern to detail its response plan to the East Palestine train derailment.
U.S. Senators Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Bob Casey (D-PA), John Fetterman (D-PA) and J.D. Vance (R-OH) and U.S. Representatives Christopher Deluzio (D-PA) and Bill Johnson (R-OH) sent a letter to the Norfolk Southern Corporation President and CEO Alan Shaw Friday.
According to the release, the letter reminded the company that it has a legal and moral obligation to the residents of East Palestine and Darlington Township, Pennsylvania.
The lawmakers demanded a written response on how the company plans to be an active member of clean-up operations and provide money for the damages to the community and environment.
"…for the Ohio and Pennsylvania residents forced from their homes and now living with uncertainty as well as the first responders who responded to the crisis, questions remain about what will be required for the long-term recovery for their families, businesses, organizations, and communities," the lawmakers wrote. "It is our expectation that Norfolk Southern will not only fulfill its legal responsibilities, but also its moral obligation to make whole those who have had their lives upended through no fault of their own."
The letter follows visits by Senators Sherrod Brown and J.D. Vance, and Representative Bill Johnson to East Palestine.
