Ahead of former President Donald Trump's visit to East Palestine, the city's school district has decided to close on Wednesday.

East Palestine City Schools Superintendent Chris Neifer sent out an all-call to families Monday night announcing the closure.

According to the call, the decision to close the schools during Trump's visit was made due to the heightened security measures and street closures that will impact the transportation of students to and from school.

School officials say the closure is due to the unique circumstance of Trump's visit and the district doesn't expect to have any more closures in the future.

District offices will remain open Wednesday and school operations will return to normal Thursday.
