Three weeks after a U.S. military jet shot down a balloon believed to be a Chinese spy in the sky, students from Boardman Glenwood Junior High sent off a balloon of their own.

Middle School science teacher Eric Diefenderfer gathered his students in the school parking lot Thursday morning and sent a weather balloon aloft.

Included in the balloon’s payload were four or five experiments.

A company called “Launch with us” assisted with the setup, which included inflating the balloon with helium.

Other classes were invited to watch the launch.
