A Girard man is in jail after allegedly leaving a four-month old child near an unloaded pistol and a live round Wednesday evening.

According to a police report, police received a call shortly before 9:00 p.m. regarding the caller's boyfriend allegedly "going irate" and throwing items around the couple's apartment while their baby was present.

Upon arrival, police located the suspect, later identified as 21-year-old Joshua Allen and asked him where his child was and how old he was. Allen told police the child was seven months old, but the police report states he was born in October of 2022, making him only four months old.

Police located the child in the couple's apartment lying in a bed next to a gun magazine as well as a loose round and an unloaded 9 mm pistol. Police also found a plastic bag of raw marijuana in the room, as well as a loaded revolver in another room.

Allen told police he and his girlfriend were arguing before she left the apartment and that he left the apartment attempting to contact his girlfriend leaving his child unattended.

Allen was placed under arrest without incident and is facing charges of Endangering Children and Drug Possession.

The child is currently in the custody of his mother.
