MVSD, Aqua Ohio testing water supplies in communities outside contamination area

Mahoning Valley - The Mahoning Valley Sanitary District (MVSD) along with Aqua Ohio are currently testing water from streams from East Palestine's neighboring communities.
MVSD Chief Engineer, Michael McNinch tells 21 News he had sent out tests from the Meander Reservoir at the end of last week, but has yet to receive the results, as the EPA is currently prioritizing water from the contamination area.
The water that is being tested primarily serves Youngstown, Niles and McDonald, as well as its surrounding satellites. McNinch tells us he does not believe the water to be contaminated and that this is being done simply as a precautionary test.
McNinch says he waited until last week to send the water, as Leslie Run and the Meander Reservoir are separate waterways, so contaminants wouldn't show up immediately.
McNinich adds that he had increased the dosage of activated carbon, the primary treatment that would be used for volatile organic compounds.
Aqua Ohio spokesman, Jeff Larue tells 21 News Aqua Ohio also sent water from both Struthers and Lake Tomahawk's systems to be tested. Some, but not all of those test results have since come back.
So far, all test results show no contaminants found.
Larue says that like McNinch, he doesn't believe there to be any contaminants in the water, but the water is simply being tested as a safety precaution.
According to Aqua Ohio's website, the company is proactively analyzing water samples for over 60 different volatile organic compounds. The company is continuing to monitor the situation while coordinating with state and federal agencies.
