World Spay Day, recognized on the fourth Tuesday of February each year, raises awareness for the spay and neuter procedures as well as the surplus of cats and dogs in shelters.

According to Angels for Animals, there are about 30 cats per home. There are not enough homes to take in the cats, which leaves cats in shelters and on the streets with no where to go.

Limiting the number of animals born gives the cats and dogs without a home an opportunity to find one.

A donor has offered to match up to $25,000 dollars raised by Angels for Animals in February. These funds will pay for the procedure for up to 1,600 cats.

According to the American Animal Hospital Association, spaying or neutering pets can decrease the chance of different cancers and also helps decline overpopulation.

It's recommended that pets are spayed or neutered as young as possible.

Angels for Animals is able to spay and neuter cats and dogs at its Canfield location which can be found at 4750 OH-165. To make an appointment, call 330-549-1111.
