1998: Three days after the stabbing death of a prisoner at Youngstown's private prison,  U.S. District Judge Sam H. Bell in Akron orders Community Corrections of America to fix problems with the way it classifies inmates. 
 
The Ohio Nurses Association says it opposes Forum Health's plan to relocate rehabilitation services from Southside Medical Center to its recently acquired Hillside Hospital in Howland. 
 
Youngstown Board of Education leaders appear confident that they are prepared to challenge a state takeover of the school district. 
 
1983: Mitchell F. Shaker of Niles will be sworn in as a Trumbull County Common Pleas judge after being appointed by Gov. Richard Celeste to fill the term of Judge Donald Ford, who was elected to the court of appeals. 
 
Despite a profitable fourth quarter in 1982, Home Savings & Loan Association, Youngstown's highest largest savings and loan posted a $3.9 million loss for 1982.
 
The  Pollock House on the campus of Youngstown State University has been spared from the wrecking ball after being eliminated as the possible site of a new high-technology building. 
 
1973: General Motors may add a spectacular high-powered model with a secret all-aluminum engine to its Lordstown-built Chevrolet Vega. 
 
The Forman Road covered bridge at Eagleville near Jefferson will be moved to the Ashtabula County Fairgrounds, where it will remain as a memento of the past. 
 
1948: The Youngstown Board of Control purchased 10 Ford two-ton trucks for use in garbage collection at a cost of $8,070 each and five Ford coupes at $1,184 each for the Fire Department.
 
Third Ward Councilman Anthony B. Flask proposes placing a Daylight Saving Time question on the ballot.
