Police are investigating a Youngstown man’s claim that someone stole a bag containing thousands of dollars while he was working out at as Boardman gym.

An officer was called to a parking lot at the Southern Park Mall late Tuesday by a 32-year-old man who told them that he heard an announcement on the gym’s public address system that an alarm had gone off on a car parked outside.

The man said he found that the front passenger window of his car had been smashed and a Coach backpack that he left on the floor of the car was missing.

According to the police report, the victim of the break-in said the bag contained $27,000.

The man told the officer that no one knew what was in the bag.

Police the break-in was not recorded on a nearby security camera.
