A number of local volunteer fire departments have been awarded state grants as part of the Volunteer Fire Assistance Grant program.

Six local departments received a combined total of $30,142.03.

The following is a breakdown of the grants:

  • $8,554.50 for the Green Township Volunteer Fire Department
  • $6,188.50 for the Winona Fire Department Inc.
  • $4,920.00 for the Damascus Fire Department Inc.
  • $4,350.00 for the Beloit Fire Department
  • $4,274.99 for the Hanover Township Volunteer Fire Association Inc.
  • $1,854.04 for the Coitsville Fire Department

The grant program focuses on helping fire departments acquire wildland fire equipment like UTVs, ATVs, protective equipment and communication devices.

The departments were eligible to apply for grants of up to $10,000.
